This year I was really super lucky with the holidays!
Both with the time, the length and everything that was accomplished, and it’s my first proper holiday in four years! Throughout July, Carine and I had a holiday together and were able to stay at the cottage for almost four weeks!
The holiday started with three birthdays in a row: My mother’s in Kristiansand, Carine’s uncle and then Carine’s daughter in Oslo. In addition, we met some new friends ❤️
Completely full of birthday cakes we rolled to the cabin where we each had our own project to work on: She with the last inning of her doctoral thesis (Ph.D) in archeology and me with my website/blog.
In addition, we celebrated 1 year as engaged ❤️ She makes me the happiest in the world! And I am indescribably grateful that she has now been engaged to me for a year. May the big day not be far away ❤️
The days at the cabin were routine: Get up, have breakfast and work for an hour, then run for an hour in the forest before lunch and many hours of work again. The evening always started at 6pm with a delicious dinner and film/series (recommend the series The Fosters on Disney+, we are totally hooked and it is so heartfelt and lovely!). And that’s pretty much how the days went – absolutely perfect. The cats were also there and usually “on a leash” outside, so they enjoyed themselves all day. We also went on a day trip of 15 km to Rundkoll, where we had fun roasting dumplings and enjoying nature to the fullest ❤️
I tried to play some guitar for the cows. Guess if they liked it…
This year there were an incredible amount of sheep and cows around the cabin – up to 50 cows at once! And some of them were up late moooing into the night! And one sheep had broken its back leg, so we got it inside our fence so the owner could come and get it. In addition, we have seen a majestic reindeer with huge antlers (in a landscape that looked like something from Lord of the Rings), cranes (a huge bird), horses (running loose on pasture), squirrels and lots of small birds.

Finally, I have to say thank you so very much for all the nice words about my website! I’ve wanted a blog for many years (I’ve written a diary since I was 7, and think it’s so nice to take care of memories, both with pictures and words), but never had anything special to share and felt that the market is quite full, but now with a tiny house underway, there is suddenly a bit to document anyway. Many thanks to those of you who follow my journey! ❤️
The trip to the cabin and the holidays are over for now and we have arrived home safely ❤️ Tomorrow, work awaits at 06, so it will be a complete turn to get up at 04:30, but the nice thing about working shifts is that there are not many early- shift in a row, so it’ll work out. Carine will be working on an archeology project in Porsgrunn all autumn and will only be home during weekends, so that will also be a complete turnaround from hanging out 24/7 to seeing each other for a few hours at weekends (I often work weekends, so it’s super fun ..).
